Treat Yourself to an Illuminating Weekend

Enjoy a refreshing, rejuvenating and inspiring weekend at Illumination!, a three-day yoga, music, and healing arts retreat on October 8–10. Sponsored by Neat Retreats and located within the beautiful Skylands region of Northwestern New Jersey at Camp Johnsonburg (Exit 19 off Route 80), the retreat offers a range of relaxing activities, including yoga classes led by instructors Jo Ann Jones (NJ) and Ashley Ludman (NC), Reiki treatments by practitioners Amy Jeanette and Kathy Landers, daily meditations, a world music concert performed by Dhamaru on Saturday evening (open to the public), and a drum and dance event around a bonfire on Sunday evening. Dhamaru will also provide live musical accompaniment for the morning yoga sessions. In addition to the structured events, free time will be available to relax by the camp’s scenic lake, take a hike while enjoying the area’s breathtaking fall foliage, or just curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace. Registration fees include all activities, meals, and lodging. The price for the full weekend is $400 ($360 if booked by September 6). Participants may also attend on any single day for a predetermined price. The joys of bonding with other attendees, learning new skills, and exploring your inner child are free of charge (and priceless)!

For more information on Neat Retreats or to register for Illumination!, visit NeatRetreats.com, call 973-229-4757, or e-mail [email protected]. Space is limited; early registration is recommended.

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
