Natural Awakenings North Central New Jersey

November 2016

Nov 02, 2016 12:30PM ● By Ana Rincon

With this November 2016 issue, we mark the 10th anniversary of the North Central NJ edition of Natural Awakenings. Over the past 10 years, you have welcomed us into your homes and businesses and allowed us to become a trusted voice in the community. My gratitude goes out to all our current and past advertisers, readers, contributors, and the local organizations that help us distribute this free, but invaluable, publication.

This November issue also marks another milestone. Being involved with Natural Awakenings for the last six years has been an amazing experience. I’ve grown both personally and professionally, and the growth has helped me find the spirit to make some big changes in my life. Previous publisher’s letters have mentioned downsizing and moving, but not where my new home is. After several short trips and one longer trial run, I fell in love with living in Charleston, SC. So as of mid-August, I’ve been a Charleston resident. The obvious issue is that a dream home/life in South Carolina doesn’t fit well with a local magazine in New Jersey. So, with some regret and a lot of anticipation for new experiences to come, this will be my last issue of the magazine.

I’m so pleased to introduce Joe Dunne as the new publisher-owner of the magazine. I’ve known Joe for many years as a talented and seasoned publisher – some of you may already know him as the current owner of the Central NJ edition of Natural Awakenings. I’m certain that his energy and experience will ensure the continued success and growth of this edition. If any of you have questions or are moved to personally welcome Joe, you can reach him at Joe@

Although I’m moving on to new and exciting ventures, I’ll always hold Natural Awakenings and the people I know through the magazines dear to my heart.

Love, Ana

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
