CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release : Spring Cleaning for the Mind, Body and Emotion

Mar 30, 2019 04:32PM ● By Lana Dykes

Spring is here and with it brings the desire for spring cleaning: a time to go through the home and organize, declutter and clean out what is no longer needed. It’s also the perfect time to consider “spring cleaning” the body, mind and emotion.

There are many detoxes and cleanses on the market that work to nutritionally clean your body, which is very helpful in eliminating toxins and waste and to assist with starting a new healthier lifestyle. Cleansing is also about looking within and clearing out unwanted and unneeded burdens to allow for health and growth on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

A highly effective treatment technique for this type of cleanout is CranioSacral Therapy (CST). This gentle, hands-on approach releases tensions deep within the body. On a physical level, clearing out blockages that have impacted muscle and tissue activation and function, impaired blood and cerebral spinal fluid flow and caused neural compression, allows the body to be in an improved state for healing. This can allow improvement in chronic pain, range of motion, function, and quality of life.

Because CST works on both the nervous system and on the deeper layers of tissue, it allows for the release of emotional trauma, distress, anger, sadness, resentment, regret and fear.

“As craniosacral therapists, when placing our hands onto an individual’s body, we are able to feel the muscular, fascial and neural tension and compression patterns, the flow of cerebral spinal fluid and the movement of energy in the body,” explains Dr. Jacquelyn Hines. “By assessing the body’s state through touch, areas where the energy has shifted into a state of discord, usually due to emotional trauma or the holding onto of an emotional experience, can be palpated.”

SomatoEmotional Release (SER) expands on CST principles and further aids in helping mind, body and emotion return to balance. Through SER techniques, the door is opened for additional exploration and release of residual effects of past trauma and negative emotional experiences that have been compartmentalized, stored or buried in the mind which cause imbalances in the body.

CST and SER both recognize that each of us has an inner physician. The techniques used in SER allow the patient to comfortably and safely let go of cognitive thought to tune into this deep inner healing guidance. “Through manual therapy techniques and dialoguing with the patient’s inner physician, we work together to clean up these areas of disorganization to help achieve balance within the body,” describes Dr. Danielle Rediker. “A sense of calm and lightness comes with the freedom of releasing and letting go, just like cleaning out a junk drawer or a packed closet.”

“Since it is impossible to separate the emotional, physical, and spiritual selves, it’s important to recognize that all these areas must be addressed in order to achieve the best outcomes,” states Hines. “This spring, allow these holistic and effective therapies to cleanse and balance your body and help you bloom into your most perfect self!”

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
